Published bounce house prices around St. Louis run from about $150 to $250, but the headline number is the least useful thing to compare, because some companies quote an all-day rental and others quote four hours. The bigger split is the river. Most of the well-reviewed St. Louis companies are based in St. Charles or North County and do not deliver to Metro East Illinois, and almost none of them publish whether their units are Illinois state inspected or whether they can name your school district on a certificate of insurance. The three things that actually decide this

1. Four hours or all day? This is the one that trips people up. A $175 all-day unit and a $250 four-hour unit are not the same purchase, and the cheaper headline is not always the cheaper day.
2. Do they cross the river? If your party is in Belleville, O'Fallon IL, Edwardsville or Collinsville, a good half of the St. Louis companies simply do not come. Check the service area before you fall in love with a price.
3. Is it going on school, church or city property? If yes, price stops being the deciding factor. You will need a certificate of insurance naming the district or the city, and in Illinois you may be asked for proof of state inspection. Very few companies in this market say anything about either one.

Jump & Jam Party Rentals — the best published price, if they come to you

A classic bounce house is $175 for an all-day rental, which they describe as up to eight hours, and that is the best published value we found anywhere in this market. Their Backyard Ninja obstacle course is $299 all day and a dual-lane water slide combo is $250. Their site says they are fully insured with $2 million in liability coverage, and their school events page says they can provide certificates of insurance naming a school or district as additionally insured, which almost nobody else publishes.

The catch: their published service area is Florissant, Hazelwood, Bridgeton, Spanish Lake, Black Jack, Maryland Heights, St. Charles and North County. Metro East Illinois is not on it. If you are on the Illinois side, this is not your company no matter how good the price is.

Jolly Jumps of St Louis — the most-reviewed option in the market

Bounce houses start at $225 for a four-hour rental, and with 828 Google reviews at 4.9 stars they have the deepest review history of anyone here. Their site says licensed and insured. Service area is listed as St. Louis, Chesterfield, Wildwood, Kirkwood and Fenton, and they invite you to call if your city is not listed. The Bounce House Company — the big operation

4.9 stars from 769 reviews, based in St. Charles, and they say they deliver up to 100 miles. Their site says they are a fully licensed and insured company in Missouri and that additional insurance coverage is available on request. They do not publish unit pricing on the pages we checked, so you will need to request a quote. Worth a call if your event needs tents, tables and rides alongside the inflatables.

Book-N-Bounce STL — strong reviews, get a quote

5.0 stars from 672 reviews and a St. Charles base. We could not verify their current unit pricing from their own site, so we are not going to publish a number for them. Ask them directly.

The Illinois-side companies

Metro STL Bounce — the cheapest number in the market

Granite City based, with a bounce house listed from $150 and an obstacle course called the Ultimate Challenge at $300. Their site says the price on your order is all inclusive with no additional fees, which is a genuinely good policy. They do not publish the rental duration, so ask how many hours $150 buys before you compare it to anything.

Gateway Rental — the most transparent obstacle course pricing

Belleville based, 4.9 stars from 103 reviews. Bounce houses from $225, a 30-foot obstacle course at $350, a 66-foot obstacle course at $495, a Volcano waterslide at $475 and an 18-foot super slide wet at $450. Their site says they are fully licensed and insured and that they deliver and pick up so it is set up safely. They do not publish rental duration either. If you want a long obstacle course and $495 fits your budget, they are the direct comparison to make.

Mid America Moonwalks — the only other company claiming state inspection

This is the one to take seriously if you are booking for a school, church or park. Their site says their inflatables are Illinois state inspected and fully insured, and that they are a preferred vendor of St Louis County Parks and Recreation. 5.0 stars from 150 reviews. They deliver to Belleville, Swansea, Fairview Heights, Shiloh, O'Fallon, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Columbia, Granite City and Troy, with delivery charges over 10 miles from their location. They do not publish unit pricing.

We will be straight about this: of every company in this guide, they are the only other one publicly claiming Illinois state inspection. If we were not in this market, they are who we would tell a Metro East school to call.

Twist and Bounce — small, local, very well liked

5.0 stars from 46 reviews and a Metro East base. They do not publish pricing and note a travel fee may apply for distant events. Worth a quote for a straightforward backyard party.

Clear Sound Party Rentals — packages rather than units

Belleville based, serving Belleville, Swansea and O'Fallon IL. They sell packages rather than single units, with a Princess Party Package at $450 and a Splash Party Package at $650 that includes a slide with a pool. Different model, and it suits you if you want one bundled price for a themed party.

Me 2 You Game Truck (that's us)

We are the most expensive basic bounce house in this guide of any company that publishes a price. $250 against $150 and $175. We are not going to dress that up.

Here is what the difference buys, and you can decide whether it is worth it. Four hours with free delivery, setup, teardown, cords and a blower inside 29 miles of Granite City. Illinois state inspected units. General liability in both Illinois and Missouri, with a certificate of insurance naming your school, district, church or city as additionally insured available on request. Every employee background checked before hire. And a rain policy where we watch the forecast with you, a $100 deposit holds the date, and we do not take the final balance until the day of, so a bad Saturday does not cost you the party.

The full menu runs $200 to $1,000 per unit on four-hour rentals: bounce houses $250, the Glitch Combo wet or dry $450, the Beach Vibe water slide $500, obstacle courses $300 to $500, our 89-foot obstacle course at $1,000, Human Foosball $400, the dual lane axe throw $300, sport inflatables $250 each with the fifth free when you rent four, and interactive games from $200.

Where we are the wrong call. If you want the cheapest possible bounce house in a backyard for one afternoon and nothing else matters, book Jump & Jam at $175 all day if they deliver to you, or Metro STL Bounce at $150 if you are on the Illinois side. That is a better buy for that job and we would rather tell you than talk you into $75 you did not need to spend.

Where we are the right call. A school field day, a church fall festival, a city event, or anything where the insurance paperwork and the state inspection have to be real, and where one vendor covering inflatables plus a game truck, laser tag, VR or RC racing on the same invoice saves you three phone calls.

The thing most people get backwards about capacity

A bounce house sounds like the high-capacity option. It is the low one. Ours hold three at a time, which is typical for a 13x13 unit, and kids go in and stay in. An obstacle course runs two at a time because it is a two-lane race course, which sounds worse and is much better for a crowd: two kids run, they finish in under a minute, and the next two go.

For a backyard birthday with eight kids, a bounce house is perfect. For a festival or a field day, courses move people and bouncers hold them, and one bounce house at a 300-student event builds a line half the kids give up on. If you are buying for a crowd, buy the course first.

The questions to ask before you put down a deposit

1. How many hours is that price? Four or all day. Ask every single company.
2. Do you deliver to my exact town, and what is the fee? Especially on the Illinois side.
3. Are your units state inspected, and can you send a certificate of insurance naming us? Non-negotiable for schools, churches and parks.
4. Is an attendant included? Most inflatable rentals in this market are drop-off, which means supervision is on you. Ask what an attendant costs if you want one.
5. How far is the setup spot from an outlet? Past about 50 feet you need a generator, and you would rather learn that now than on the day.
6. What happens if it rains? Ask specifically when the balance is taken and whether a reschedule costs anything.
